Miu Miu werd in 1993 opgericht door Miuccia Prada als een meer experimentele en persoonlijke uitdrukking van haar creatieve visie, los van het gevestigde Prada-label. De naam Miu Miu is de bijnaam die Miuccia Prada als kind van haar familie had gekregen.
