The space

The interior does exactly what you expect from Karl: every detail is deliberate, nothing is accidental. A solid island dominates the middle of the room, the coffee bar is wrapped in gleaming ribbed metal and behind the bar hangs a lit installation as a quiet nod to Lagerfeld himself. It feels more like a gallery than a coffee bar, but one you can actually sit down in.

The matcha and the croissant

The pastries come from Pantopia, an Amsterdam hotspot. Not unfamiliar ground for us: we recently recorded an episode of Matcha Date at Pantopia, together with Dilara Selfinaz, and we have been fans of what the atelier makes for a while. That those pastries are now also served at the Karl Lagerfeld Café feels like a logical meeting of two worlds that both understand beauty lives in the details. The croissant proves it once more. So does the matcha.

The edit

Next to the menu there is a curated selection of exclusive merchandise: ready-to-wear, accessories, Tokidoki dolls, candles and fragrances. Pieces you will not find anywhere else. The branded cups and takeaway packaging are modelled on the façade of the original Maison in Paris. A little bit of Karl always comes home with you. More Karl?
